Hurt

Violence made me vicious and my sins are too many to count.

When I look at her, I’m reminded of everything that is good and pure in this world. My redemption is hopeless, so I keep my distance, fighting the temptation to get closer to her, even when her eyes invite me in. Everyone I love eventually disappears, so I must keep my distance to keep her safe. It is the price I pay for the ruthless horrors I’ve committed.

Until I see her hurt. Now nothing, not even my past, could keep me away.
